Jim Miers, Woolworths Supermarkets
Palm City Oasis Shopping Centre Palmerston consists of a 4000m2 Woolworths Supermarket and 5400m2 of specialty shops and mall areas. Sitzler undertook the design and construction of this project, with special consideration being given to fast construction techniques, which resulted in the building being completed in eight months.
The supermarket was constructed in 22 weeks and handed over to Woolworths to allow them to carry out their fitout.
Several difficulties were encountered with public utility providers (power) due to the short time frame of the project. This was overcome by utilising a 500KVA generator on site for one month to run Woolworths until PAWA could supply and install the required transformers.
The project also required the construction of a roundabout and turning lanes to both of Palmerstons main arterial dual lane roads which was carried out with minimum disruption to traffic flow.
The issue of noise emissions from the complex was a significant planning issue on this project which required sound levels to be below 45dba at the site boundaries at night. This was achieved through relocating the supermarket plant rooms to the front of the supermarket and sound proofing them through concrete structures and large banks of attenuated intake and exhaust louvres. The installation successfully passed the noise tests prior to issue of the Certificate of Completion.
