The record-breaking Katherine floods of 1998, after three days of unrelenting rain saw the town of Katherine classified in the region as a state of disaster. The Katherine Oasis Shopping Centre in the main street was inundated with flood water causing considerable flood damage.
Sitzler having originally constructed the building were approached by Woolworths and other lessees to complete rectification works. The scope of works for the Katherine Oasis Shopping Centre included replacement of all water damaged floors, walls and ceilings, replacement of stainless steel fixtures and fittings, general cleaning and repainting of walls, replacement of damaged structural elements and signage.
Loss of trade due to flood damage required the construction program to be accelerated with the Sitzler project team liaising with the client, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure all elements were in place. In order to assist the client with their requirements, Sitzler amended the construction program by splitting it into two separate projects enabling costs associated with the insurers and the client to remain separate.
The project was fast-tracked ensuring businesses had minimal down time. The building was completed to original condition meeting client and insurance assessor requirements.
