On February 11 2008, Sitzler were awarded the contract for the construction of a new community police station and four residences situated on the remote indigenous community of Galiwin'ku in North East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

The project requirements included:

  • Extensive civil works
  • The construction of 4 x four bedroom houses
  • The construction of a police station which will service the entire island and includes a visiting officers quarters and two prisoner cells.
  • A secure store shed and a large boat shed

The sheer remoteness of the location was a challenge in itself. Sitzler worked in conjunction with subcontractors and suppliers, the Galiwin'ku Community Incorporated and logistics and transport providers to ensure that the project was delivered to the specific requirements of all stakeholders.

Where possible, Sitzler prefabricated some housing components to reduce the strict time constraints on the construction programme.
