The NT Netball Project in Marrara provides a single focus point for netball in Darwin and a first class facility for state and national competition. This project involves the importation of 70,000 tonne of fill to raise levels of the land up to 1500mm - gradual cross falls allow for good playing surface and permitting adequate drainage to cope with tropical rainfall. 4 courts are rebound ace rubberised playing surfaces and the other 6 courts are a painted coating over hotmix asphalt. Car parking with 170 spaces and an Administration / Change room facility is provided to cater for up to 140 players at any one time, including bar and canteen facilities as well as office facilities. Also provided are Caretakers Facility and dedicated storage building for Netball Equipment along with substantial areas of landscaping & planting for family activities.
Challenges of major siteworks and detailed court preparation being undertaken in the Wet Season have presented Sitzler with some unique challenges. Concrete pours commencing at 4.00am to be finished by 9.00am allowing us to avoid both the heat of the day and the ever present threat of major storms in the afternoon. The specialist nature of the Court Coating systems prevent it being laid when rain is imminent; as a result we have had to delay this process until the weather conditions indicated an end to The Wet. The additional scope of Caretakers Facility and Store late in the contract also added to the complexity of site accessibility. The completion of a major car parking facility in the height of Darwins Wet season also presented its fair share of challenges which were capably met and managed by the Sitzler Team.
