The project involved the Design and Construction of a five star green star rated, two level administration building including car park, access and services. The building has been designed to provide environmentally sustainable performance parameters within the Northern Territory's tropical environment.

A key focus of the project is the attention to comprehensive security provisions through the building fabric, external fencing, lighting, road access and barrier controls. Security functions and building environmental management are all controlled through a comprehensive Building Management and Control System. A key aspect of the successful project management has been the attention to communication protocols and client management as the project requires complex inputs from both the Northern Territory Airports' team as well as the Australian Federal Police property team.

The Darwin facility is the first of a national roll out of regional administration buildings for the Australian Federal Police. The project procurement strategies and lessons learned from the Darwin Airport building will be formalised within a national procurement programme.
