In reviewing the current Sports and Gymnasium facilities Charles Darwin University sought to extend their offer of services to the University and wider community through developing a state-of-the-art Gymnasium and Sports Centre building that would deliver to these needs. The provision of a commercial Medical centre was seen as both a University and Community need which could be provided on campus. These two buildings are positioned at the edge of the Campus adjacent to an existing major road, and architecturally tie in with other adjacent facilities.

Sitzler were awarded the project February 2010 and commenced works immediately through the extensive capabilities and experience of their Civil division, promptly completing demolition of existing buildings and preparing the site for the two new facilities to efficiently complete the program ahead of schedule.

The construction involved block work wall structures, structural steel roof structure, steel roofing, extensive use of metal cladding and steel sun shading devices externally, all requiring careful programming and attention to detail with regard to integrating these features seamlessly.

Internally, a high attention to detail was required to ensure the specific requirements of both the Medical fit out and Sports / Gymnasium were considered; the result is the delivery of fixed joinery and furniture units that are both of high quality and befitting the high impact use requirements both these facilities will encounter through their ongoing high use.

Charles Darwin University have been provided with two excellent facilities that are both modern in their construction and will have extensive longevity through a high level of detail in finishing and use of highly durable installations which Sitzler specifically sought to deliver to all aspects of the project.
