As part of the Strategic Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Program (SIHIP) in the Northern Territory, Sitzler undertook the civil works component of a 140 lot subdivision including all headworks at the Maningrida Community on the remote North Coast of Arnhem Land.

The project possessed significant challenges, including the transportation of equipment, personnel and materials to this remote location. The areas roads were in various states of disrepair and are often closed or load limited, and are impassable during the wet season, December - May, with coastal barging the only transport available.

Significant preplanning and programming was undertaken to ensure all required materials were marshaled in Darwin and transshipped to Maningrida via barge to arrive in advance of the required installation date.

Local materials available in adjacent areas were tested, modified to comply with the specification standards and then utilized in the construction of the works. These modified materials were used in association with site specific construction methodologies developed to ensure the installed civil works meet the standards specified.

This projects construction implementation plan need to be modified as construction works progressed, to align itself with the approval and procurement processes of the overall SIHIP project where land tenure and provision of services agreements were managed and settled by the program manager as the infrastructure was being built. Sitzler completed its role in this project in association with its client Territory Alliance.
