Sitzler Pty Ltd completed the $11 million design and construction contract for new facilities at Robertson Barracks and RAAF Darwin to support the US Marines deployment. Approximately 1,200 Marines were deployed to Darwin in 2014 under the Marine Rotation Force - Darwin (MRF-D) and sleeping and working accommodation was required to meet the increased demand.

This project was delivered through the National Program Management Office (NPMO), within the Defence Support and Reform Group. Overall, the project designed and delivered the following facilities. Overall, the project manufactured and delivered 60 Modular buildings in a 9 week period, which consisted of:

  • 31 sleeping accommodation buildings, with each building containing five rooms each.
  • 12 office accommodation buildings and one medical building,
  • 3 double module Common Room facilities (each 104m2 in area),
  • 7 Ablution buildings,
  • 4 laundry blocks,
  • 3 Storage buildings containing kit cages, and
  • 525m elevated modular walkways

Given the required timeframe for completion on the project, the works, both off-site in the modular factory in Darwin and on site at both Bases, required the project to continue delivery through the Christmas and New Year period without stoppage. With a 30% tendered design, the final design to 90% was required within 4 weeks after Contract Award, which was achieved to allow the project to proceed.

This project (both design and construction) was be completed in an 18 week compressed time frame with construction being delivered in parallel on both sites.
