Tiwi Partners Incorporation – Supporting Indigenous Australians

Tiwi Partners

Back in 2016 the Tiwi Land Council (TLC) and Tiwi Islands Regional Council (TIRC) jointly sought expressions of interest from corporations with potential interest in and capacity for undertaking infrastructure projects in the Tiwi Islands and beyond.

Sitzler were successfully identified as a corporation committed to a business model that included the training and employment of Tiwi People, working with Tiwi Enterprise and other approved indigenous business. From this, Tiwi Partners was born.

Over the past few years, the joint venture has built up an impressive portfolio of projects under contracts with Defence Australia. To date they have delivered over 18 Defence Infrastructure projects since the establishment of the joint venture.

Following on from this success, Tiwi Partners were recently awarded the $45M contract for JORN Phase 6 Facilities Project near Alice Springs, NT.

Now the partnership has taken the next big step forward. Earlier last month the Tiwi Island Equity Holders Pty and Sitzler Pty Ltd signed a new agreement to become an incorporated entity – Tiwi Partners (Aust) Pty Ltd.

Managing Director of Sitzler and Board Member of Tiwi Partners (Aust) Pty Ltd, Steve Margetic said of the partnership “The recent incorporation of Tiwi Partners (Aust) Pty Ltd is an important milestone in the ongoing evolution of our partnership with the Tiwi Land Council and Tiwi Island Regional Council. It is tremendous to see this business venture develop from a small joint venture enterprise into one that is now working across three states and successfully delivering a diverse range of projects for key clients”.

“We are particularly proud of the ongoing work being done by the board of Tiwi Partners. Independent Chair Ms Marion Scrymgour leads the board, ably supported by deputy chair Mr Allan McGill, and board members Lynette De Santis, Mary Dunn, Leslie Tungatulum, Stanley Tipiloura, Gawin Tipiloura, and Michael Sitzler along with myself.”

The Tiwi Partners board have worked tirelessly over the past few years to foster growth and ensure that original key objectives of the partnership were being met.

The training, employment and supporting of indigenous business and workers are all central to the business model but more importantly finding a way to use the business to give back to the community of the Tiwi people was a key deliverable.

With this in mind, the Tiwi Community Benefit was established. Tiwi Partners contributes directly back into the fund to support the improvement of living, health, community and family services on the Tiwi Islands.

“We are committed to the continued growth of Tiwi Partners (Aust) Pty Ltd and look forward to the continual growth of a substantial and sustainable benefit fund for the people of the Tiwi islands” said Steve.
