The Archer Zone Substation ultimately saw the new 27MVA transformer provide alternative power supply and capacity to the fast-growing Palmerston region. Although initially comprising a single 27MVA transformer, the site was designed and constructed to accommodate a future configuration of three 27MVA transformers plus an additional 66kV transmission line linking Archer with the Hudson Creek Substation.
